See the old and new capital city of Nivaragua. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1972, the southern part of the city is now called the future downtown of Managua. This is where most of the investments are being made, and we will get acquainted with both areas. We will see the “National Historic Park Loma de Tiscapa,” ruins of the old presidential palace, destroyed by the earthquake that leveled the city. Then we will drive down to visit the “Park of Peace.” We will also visit “El Malecon” for a closer look at Lake Managua and surrounding areas. We will see the monument to Simon Bolivar, National Theater Ruben Dario, the New Presidential House, Palace of Culture and other buildings. We will also see the future center of the city with its modern and new metropolitan cathedral.
Here we will notice the growth of the city and the new investments in hotels, bars and restaurants, modern gas stations, casinos, banks, supermarkets, shopping malls and residential areas. To continue, we will drive up to the active crater of the Masaya volcano national park and witness the activity of the crater releasing tons of gas every day. Just a few minutes away you will have a chance to purchase souvenirs at the local market of Masaya. Continuing with a historical tour of the city of Granada (1524) where we’ll see “La Merced” church, the house of the Zamora family, the famous “Casa de Los Tres Mundos” and the San Francisco convent. Here, we will have the opportunity to see and take pictures of mysterious idols made by our ancestors. This is an impressive collection of genuine pre-Columbian sculptures in human and animal shapes.
