After the ferry over to Belize City, you will be picked up for your transfer to the ruins of Xunantunich. Though the center is only one square kilometer, Xunantunich is home to 25 temples and palaces, including the second tallest Mayan structure in Belize, the pyramid El Castillo. Xunantunich was a major ceremonial center for the ancient Maya. From its perch on a natural limestone ridge, visitors enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding area and into Guatemala.
After exploring Xunantunich, you will then travel to Caves Branch which is Belize’s longest and most spectacular “River of Caves” cave tubing float…over 7 miles underground. Enter the exciting world of rivers disappearing into the underworld as you float on inner tubes with only your headlamp to light your way. Floating past side windows that filter the jungle light through the mist as you swirl around stalagmites jutting from the river and stalactites looming from above. Float past underground waterfalls then into the crystal cathedral, a spiritual center to the ancient Maya.
