Club Rio Outdoor Center is located directly below The Springs Resort & Spa along a beautiful stretch of the Arenal River. You will check in at the front desk for your transfer down to the center. Upon arrival, you will have your choice of two of the following tours:
River tubing: Special tubes are designed to run small rivers and are equipped with handles and protective bottoms. The tubing course is about 1 kilometer long in total and you will have the option to go two times down the river. Children should be a minimum of 8 years old and need to know how to swim. This tour may be cancelled if water levels in the river exceed certain levels. Life jackets and helmets will be provided. Please bring water shoes with a secure heel strap or you can rent them for $4 a pair.
Kayaking: The river ranks as a Class I, II and III (beginner-intermediate) but you can select to run the sections with less difficulty if you prefer. This is a great activity for beginner adults and families. A certified river rafting instructor and a member of the Costa Rica National rafting team will serve as your guides and they are there to provide top quality instruction and insure strict safety standards. The permissible age to go on this tour alone varies with the conditions of the river, but we recommend that children from 5 to 10 years old go in a two person kayak with the guide. All of the three “Put-Ins” are at tranquil river pools to practice your paddling and acclimate you to the feel of the kayak.
Climbing/Rappel Wall: The 15 meters high climbing wall offers different routes of various difficulty levels, as well as rappelling. The special design and the materials used to construct this latest addition to the Club Rio Outdoor Center gives you the closest feeling to natural rock that you can get from an artificial structure. Harnesses, helmets and climbing shoes provided. No prior experience is necessary.
Horseback Riding: You will ride through the forest and pastures of the Springs Resort & Spa’s Rain Forest Wildlife Preserve on a beautiful and very tame horse. No horseback experience necessary.
Once you have completed the first portion of your tour, you will then be taken to the Sanctuary wildlife preserve at 4 pm.
What to bring: Light clothing, bathing suit, water shoes with heel strap, and towel.
